Weather-getter script for conky
I had been using pymetar to do the dirty work, but wanted to see if I could
get it done without Python. It doesn't show everything in the METAR; just
what I want.

[NORLUG] What is the best way to program in C?
Hi, new part of the mailing list. I live in Farmington, and I'm trying to
learn a bit of programming. I did some reading and discovered that it would
be best to learn C, C++, Objective-C... So where do I start? There are so
many resources that I'm overwhelmed. I do get the impression that you guys

[NORLUG] python question - copying a list or dictionary
Simple question: if my_thing is a dictionary or list, will
x = my_thing*1
create a copy (rather than a reference)?
x = my_thing*1
create a copy (rather than a reference)?
I'm aware of other methods of copying my_thing; just want to know if
the above is legit.

.deb question
Anybody got any experience with creating .deb packages? I could use a
few pointers on where to get started.

Caching proxy server
I've a bit of a problem.
I need a caching proxy server to help reduce that nagging dial-up
feeling for my computer lab's one GPRS internet connection. I've been
using squid, but it proves to be a bit hard for a normal user to
maintain.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a simple caching proxy server

Simple screenshooter?
Ive got a slightly-bloated LXDE install of Fedora 13 alpha to which I
would like to add a simple program (or two or even three) to capture:
1. A single window (I can do this with the script below using
ImageMagick)
2. A user-definable area of the screen
3. The whole screen
I'm trying to avoid GNOME dependencies, the 28 I have is too many.

LDC, Week 4: What is Ubuntu Minnesota?
One of the things that became apparent in our recent survey is that
there are a significant number of people who aren't really sure what
"Ubuntu Minnesota" or a "LoCo" actually are, so this week I will
attempt to clarify those points and a few others. Since this also
involves our relationships with the greater Linux community locally,

Where can I find an online anti-virus that doesn't install on your PC?
I've got 5 PCs that I'm trying to use to train disadvantaged young
people. The problem is they are riddled with viruses and a firewall
blocks me from updating them. The people in charge of maintaining the
PCs won't fix them or give me the admin password (Win XP) to let me
install a new or updated antivirus the centre is being shut down in a

Sorry about the spammers
Hi NORLUGgers,
Sorry about the spam leaking through. It's the first time in since 2001
that it's happened. There was some caught by the filter the other day.
I'll play with the settings to make sure it doesn't happen again.

New to the mailing list
Hello everyone, I just found NORLUG. I was briefly a part of TCLUG a
couple years ago but then I moved to Lonsdale. I use Linux as my main
OS with the exception of when I am at work. I am one of them Gentoo
guys and have preferred it for the past 5 years. Before that I was
using SUSE and Mandrake.
